Clearfield Sweeps Punxsy in Jr. High Football

Hyde -- The Clearfield 9th graders rebounded from their tough loss to Indian Valley last week by beating the Chucks in a closer than anticipated game, 15-6.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Bisons took the lead in the second via an 8-yard run up the middle by quarterback Trey Campman. Luke Bell added the 2-point conversion.

Punxsy came right back with a 60 yard touchdown run, but missed the 2-point conversion to set the score at 8-6 at the half.

After a Chuck drive ended at the Clearfield half yard line in the 4th quarter; the Bisons went on a 99 1/2 yard drive to ice the game. The final 18 yards belonging to Luke Bell. Tanner Catherman split the uprights to set the final score.

The Punxsutawney quarterback apparently couldn't see his shadow or his receivers as Clearfield had 4 interceptions on the night. Bell picked off two, while Wil Beausiegneur and Matt Lonjin added one.

The 8th graders struggled to an 8-6 victory. Jordan Voss scored the lone Bison touchdown on a short run.

Quarterback Andrew Redden then "root hogged" for the 2-point conversion that made the difference in the final score.

Brandon Hoag and Curtis Frye each had an interception to lead the young Bison defense.

Both squads will take to the road to Brookville next Thursday. The 9th graders (4-2) will play at 7:00 PM, while the 8th graders (2-4) will take to the field at 5:00 PM.
