John McCain Touts His Environmental Record, Vows To Make Climate Change Top Priority

Jersey City, NJ (AHN) - Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain touted his record on environmental issues and vowed Friday to make global climate change one of the focal points in his campaign for President.

Flanked by New Jersey Gov. Tom Kean and Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) at the Liberty Science Center, McCain said, "Senator Lieberman and I brought legislation on this issue to the floor long before Senator Obama or Senator Clinton had any involvement whatsoever."

In hoping to assuage concerns that he is "soft" on environmental protection, McCain told the audience, "As president, I will dedicate myself to addressing the issue of climate change globally."

"I think there's no doubt our environment globally is challenged, that our environment in this country is challenged," he said.

McCain is hoping to convince voters of his commitment to environmental issues, even arguing that he has done more than his Democratic counterparts in addressing pressing environmental matters.
