CLEARFIELD - In celebration of its fifth anniversary, the Clearfield Hospital Wound Clinic team is hosting an open house on Oct. 30 from 1-4 p.m. The event will be held in the wound clinic and in the first floor conference room (beside the clinic).

Former and current patients and anyone interested in learning more about the clinic’s services are encouraged to attend. There will be vendors highlighting the latest in wound care equipment and techniques, a display focusing on diabetes and an exhibit showcasing the wound clinic’s success stories over the years.

Foot and hand reflexology (massages) will be available for a donation. Proceeds will be donated to the American Diabetes Association.

Refreshments and giveaways will be part of the celebration.

According to clinic manager Anna Anna, who is a registered nurse and certified wound specialist, the Clearfield Wound Clinic is an outpatient program dedicated solely to healing patients with difficult wounds. The clinic is staffed with specially trained physicians and nurses, and is led by general surgeons and podiatrists. They use the latest wound healing techniques.

The clinic’s specialists have cared for more than 1,000 patients since the center’s opening. These patients come from all over Clearfield County and surrounding counties including Centre and Cambria.

Anna said wound care management benefits patients with diabetic foot ulcers, chronic venous ulcers, arterial ulcers, pressure ulcers, radiation-related tissue damage, non-healing surgical wounds, insect bites and burns.

The wound care team, which is led by surgeon and medical director Dr. Robert E. Steward Jr., thoroughly assesses each patient's wound, including any underlying causes, and develops an individualized treatment program. Anna said for the majority of patients, wounds heal completely, usually within several weeks.

Other members of the team are podiatrists and certified wound specialists Dr. Thomas L. Hoffman and Dr. Tammy Carlson; podiatrist Dr. Brian M. Elias; surgeon Dr. Timothy N. Kavic; licensed practical nurse and clinic coordinator Wanda Rougeux; registered nurse and certified wound nurse Kate Troxell; registered nurse Kathy Gill; certified critical care and registered nurse Brenda English; and licensed practical nurse Robin Mandel.
